Poultry farms may be allowed to vaccinate against bird flu

Rosptitsesoyuz (according to its data, unites poultry enterprises that provide 80% of the industrial production of eggs and meat) has developed and sent to the Ministry of Agriculture a draft strategy for vaccinating the livestock of industrial poultry farms against highly pathogenic avian influenza (HSV, influenza with increased severity and easily spreading from a sick individual to a healthy one) .
This is stated in a letter from the organization to its participants dated January 30, a copy of which is at the disposal of Vedomosti. It says that the strategy itself was developed on behalf of the Department of Veterinary Medicine of the Ministry of Agriculture following the meeting that took place on January 13. Director General of Rosptitsesoyuz Galina Bobyleva confirmed the authenticity of this document, adding that it is under development. Representatives of the Ministry of Agriculture and Rosselkhoznadzor did not respond to requests.
Vaccination is planned to be carried out on a voluntary basis and only on the territory of those constituent entities of Russia where outbreaks of the disease have been registered, a Vedomosti source in Rosptitsesoyuz clarifies. For example, in 2022 there were 17 such regions, including the Khabarovsk and Stavropol Territories, Samara, Saratov, Ryazan Regions, and so on. In poultry farms where the vaccine is applied, veterinarians will also be required to carry out mandatory monthly checks.
