Potanin topped the Forbes rating of new owners of assets of foreign companies in Russia

Forbes published rating 25 owners of Russian assets previously owned by foreign companies, by their profit for 2021, taking into account transactions concluded since February 24, 2022. It was headed by billionaire Vladimir Potanin, who acquired the assets of the French financial group Societe Generale.
On May 18, Mr. Potanin’s investment company, Interros, bought Rosbank from Societe Generale, which left Russia after the start of military operations in Ukraine. According to the publication, the gross profit of assets in 2021, taking into account new transactions, amounted to 49.1 billion rubles.
The second place in the list belongs to the CEO of Highland Gold Vladislav Sviblov. On April 5 last year, his company bought out the Russian enterprises of the Canadian gold mining corporation Kinross Gold. The cost of the deal was $340 million, writes Forbes. The gross profit of the asset is 38.6 billion rubles.
In third place is Ivan Tyryshkin and partners, who on May 17, 2022 acquired a 49.51% stake in HKF-Bank LLC. The gross profit of the asset amounted to 36.5 billion rubles.
In addition, the Forbes rating includes the State Research Center FSUE NAMI (fourth place, gross profit – 32 billion rubles). The top five is closed by Andrey Olkhovsky and Andrey Kostin (Russian enterprises Mercedes-Benz, 31 billion rubles). The owner of the Vkusno-i Tochka restaurant chain, which replaced McDonald’s in Russia, Alexander Govor, together with Yuri Kushnerov, took sixth place (30.1 billion rubles).
The publication notes that a significant part of transactions with assets took place at a nominal price or their amount is unknown, therefore, gross profit for 2021 was chosen as a ranking indicator for the rating, taking into account transactions concluded from February 24 to December 31, 2022. It is noted that when compiling the rating, the deal to transfer the assets of Vimpelcom (owned by the Dutch VEON, the largest shareholder of which is Mikhail Fridman’s LetterOne and partners) to Russian management was not taken into account.
