Port series: release dates for new episodes announced

On August 27, episode 4 of the crime show Port premiered on Russian streaming services and TV channels. Although the fresh domestic series did not go unnoticed, many viewers have already regretted giving it a chance. About how bad performance can perform even a good script – in our new article.

The plot of the series “Port”

Port is a Russian crime thriller about the misadventures of a corrupt customs officer, Lev Garin. The show is being released as a mini-series, with a total of 8 episodes planned to be released within its framework. The first episode was released on domestic TV channels on August 13 of this year, and at the moment half of the story is already available to viewers, that is, 4 episodes.

Customs officer Lev Garin is an attractive man with the incredible charisma of a cunning scoundrel. And besides, he is also the head of a large corruption scheme, thanks to which a dishonest civil servant was able to earn a fortune. It seems to him that his life has settled in the best way, and now he can not think about money until the end of his days.

But one day, fate nevertheless decides to give Leo what he deserves: unknown bandits kidnap his partner in the dirty “business” Plato, along with his wife Ariandna, with whom Garin had an affair on the side. The kidnappers require the hero to fulfill a whole list of conditions, then both of his loved ones will remain alive. However, agreeing to this adventure may mean that all of Leo’s crimes will be revealed. After long difficult throwing between a long-term profitable career and the lives of people, Garin nevertheless accepts the offer of mysterious criminals. Unaware of anything, he is drawn into a psychological game, the loss of which will cost him much more than just his fortune.

The project was directed by Kyrgyz cinematographer Nurbek Egen, who previously worked on the fourth season of Major, the show Alibi and Wrestler with Alexei Chadov. The idea to create a story about a corrupt official involved in a dangerous confrontation belongs to the well-known Russian public figure Alexander Tsekalo and producer Ivan Samokhvalov.

Actors of the series “Port”

The main role of the charming embezzler Leo went to the famous star of crime shows, actor Roman Mayakin. Viewers may know him from Yuri Bykov’s series “Method”, the comedy about swindler friends “Two” and the detective story “Spasskaya”. Roman is convinced that stories about criminals will always be relevant in our country:

“I think that this interest is connected, first of all, with some fears. We are afraid that we will meet some inadequate people in life – all this is about anxiety and a sense of fear. Therefore, plots about crime are widespread – because of the difficult history of the country, we have a lot of such fear in our lives.

The screen partner and love of Garin, Ariadne, was played by the Lithuanian actress Vilma Kutavichyute. She made her debut in Russian cinema relatively recently, less than 10 years ago, but during this time she has already managed to earn a good reputation for herself thanks to the Stepfather show, the popular Internet series Difficult Teens and the Contact project, where she first worked with the same by Roman Mayakin himself. Previously, Wilma had to play fatal ladies and girlfriends of villains many times, although according to the actress herself, she never liked such images:

“I never wanted to play sexy, fatal ladies – naked and with a languid look. But this is how directors see me. Well, what can you do? Although, to be honest, I want variety.

Also in the “Port” you can see Natalia Shvets, known to many on the TV series “Second to…”, Daria Mingazetdinova, actress of the popular online show “Klim”, and the rising star of the Russian screen Mikhail Troinik, who has become famous in recent years thanks to such projects as ” Chicky” and “Breathe Freely”.

Reviews of the audience: directing killed any desire to watch

While many have commented that the show has a lot of good moments to give it a shot at, the terrible direction just kills any attempt to start thinking positively about the show. And this is not at all about bad film techniques or a not too refined approach to filming, but about a banal non-compliance with even the simplest rules that are taught in the first courses of cinematographic universities. The shooting is done terribly, the sound and music accompaniment wilts the ears, and the editing makes you completely forget about any logical thread connecting the events shown. Both the plot and the atmosphere suffered from such an unprofessional approach, and even the best actors from the presented cast began to look simply helpless in the frame.

To the few positive aspects of the project, commentators attributed charismatic characters and, nevertheless, in some places a fairly good selection of performers for the main roles. Only this made the most unpretentious part of the audience watch the show to the end. However, this could not change the situation much and, perhaps, the most honest review at the moment sounds like:

“The plot consists of several good characters who were spoiled by an absolutely unbearable direction.”
