At the same time, as of July 25, chum salmon rose in price. In total, 10.4 thousand tons of chum salmon were mined, which is 11% less than the same indicator in 2022. By the beginning of the Putin season, the price of chum salmon fell from an average of 325 rubles. per kilogram in early June to 305 rubles. per kilogram in the first decade of July.

However, by July 20, the cost of chum salmon rose to 320 rubles. per kilogram. The average price in the first month of the Putin season this year exceeds the figure for the same period last year by about 10% and is almost twice as high as in 2019.

Catch volume sockeye salmon as of July 25 of this year, it amounted to 16 thousand tons (38% less than in 2022). The average price for sockeye salmon for the first two months of the fishing season in 2023 is 482 rubles. per kilogram, which is the lowest value for the specified period in the last five years.

VARPE President German Zverev explained such price dynamics by the increase in the supply of Russian sockeye salmon against the backdrop of a decrease in purchases from Japan, which is the main consumer of sockeye salmon in the world. Now Japan has shifted its focus to American sockeye salmon.

In Russia, caviar and red fish have risen in price more than in other countries of the world. According to Rosstat, caviar increased in price by 14% over the year, to an average of 6.2 thousand rubles. per kilogram. Residents of the Far East now pay 30% more for shrimp and squid.
