Pilots of the American United Airlines have achieved a salary increase of 35-40% – Kommersant

Pilots of one of the largest airlines in the US and the world, United Airlines, and the Air Line Pilots Association (ALPA) representing them have reached an agreement in principle with the airline’s management to increase pilot salaries by 34.5-40.2% over four years. Agreement was the result of almost five years of negotiations between the union and the airline, and it will come into force after all 14,000 pilots, whose interests are represented by ALPA, vote for it.

Negotiations for a new contract continued for more than four years. All this time, United Airlines pilots worked without a labor contract: the previous one ended in 2019, and the terms of the new contract did not suit the pilots. In 2022 pilots rejected another proposal from the airline’s management to increase wages by 14.5%. However, since the beginning of this year, two other major US carriers have made agreements with their pilots: Delta Air Lines pilots will receive a 34% pay increase over four years, and American Airlines pilots by 40% over the same period. After that, the negotiations of the pilots of United Airlines with the management of their airline went more actively.

The total cost of the agreement for the entire period of its validity will be about $10 billion. The terms of the document provide, along with salary increases, a number of improvements in vacation pay, work schedules and working conditions. The percentage of salary increase will depend on what types of aircraft a particular pilot flies.
