Phone scammers began to call Russians in retaliation, who tried to play malefactors or come into conflict with them, said Sergey Golovanov, chief expert at Kaspersky Lab. Kaspersky Lab noted that in March of this year the number of calls from phone scammers decreased, but a month later it began to grow again and reached its peak in June. According to the results of the first quarter of 2022, 36% of Russians received calls from unknown numbers with suspicion of fraud. In the second quarter, complaints about intruders were already received from 41% of citizens.
According to a study by the GeekBrains educational platform and the VK team, 20% of Russians encountered with fraud and became its victims, 27% of them were subjected to telephone fraud.
By the autumn of this year, it is planned to intensify the check of telecom operators for skipping calls from replacement numbers. The government reported that the Prosecutor General’s Office and the FSB will intensify inspections of operators as part of the “investigation of crimes committed using information and telecommunication technologies.”
