Peskov said that the transfer of “Fortum” under external control is due to the laws of Russia

Press Secretary of the President of Russia Dmitry Peskov recalled that actions against PJSC Fortum (owned by the Finnish Fortum) are carried out in accordance with Russian law and will continue. Earlier today, on May 5, Fortum accused Russia of violating international law due to the transfer of its “daughter” under the temporary management of the Federal Property Management Agency.

“These actions are primarily dictated by the need to protect our own interests against the backdrop of the steps taken by countries unfriendly to us. All actions in relation to “Fortum” are carried out in accordance with our legislation. They will continue,” Dmitry Peskov said, answering a question from Kommersant FM about the Kremlin’s reaction to the Finnish concern’s statement.

Dmitry Peskov also clarified that further decisions on the transfer of assets of foreign companies under the temporary management of the Federal Property Management Agency will depend on specific situations. “Each specific situation is considered separately,” he added.

25 April Vladimir Putin signed a decree authorizing the transfer of 98% of Fortum’s shares under the temporary management of the Federal Property Management Agency. Also, 83.73% of the shares of the Russian Unipro (owned by the German concern Uniper) passed under temporary management. The introduction of external control was a response to attempts by the EU authorities to nationalize Russian property.

The next day, April 26, Fortum informedthat the concern did not receive official notification of the transfer of Fortum shares under external management. Today, May 5, Fortum officially notified administration of the President of Russia that he categorically objects to the transfer of shares of his “daughter” under external control. The concern intends to take measures to protect its rights under international law.
