Peskov: only sanctions prevent gas supplies from Russia

Russia plans to fulfill its obligations to supply gas to Europe, said the press secretary of the President of the Russian Federation Dmitry Peskov. According to him, the only obstacle to the resumption of supplies are EU sanctions.
“There is a guarantee that, apart from technological problems caused by sanctions, nothing interferes with supplies. Russia was and remains ready to fulfill all its obligations,” Peskov said during a press call. He also noted that the problem with the Nord Stream turbines is caused by the “irrational actions” of European countries, which is why ordinary citizens have to “pay a lot”.
Gazprom informed on the suspension of the Nord Stream from August 31 to September 2 due to the repair of the turbine. The operation of the gas pipeline is provided by six turbines (one of them is a backup). According to the company, all working turbines are either faulty or in need of maintenance.
In June, Gazprom explained the reduction in the capacity of the gas pipeline by difficulties in returning the Siemens turbine to Russia. The turbine, built in Canada by Siemens Energy AG, was repaired in Montreal and then shipped to Germany. Gazprom said that Russia does not have the opportunity to return the turbine due to the sanctions of Canada, the European Union and the UK. Gazprom replied that additional clarifications were needed to the document, since the company still had questions related to possible risks.
