Peskov is unaware of the intention to recognize Pugacheva as a foreign agent – Kommersant

Presidential press secretary Dmitry Peskov told reporters that the Kremlin is unaware of the intention to recognize Alla Pugacheva as a foreign agent. On March 27, the head of the Federal Project for Security and Anti-Corruption, Vitaly Borodin, announced the start of the corresponding procedure.

“No, you know, to be honest, I haven’t heard anything about this either, and I haven’t heard any official statements on this matter,” Mr. Peskov answered a journalist’s question about the procedure for recognizing a singer as a foreign agent, as well as about the official the Kremlin’s positions.

March 27 Mr. Borodin reported, that he received a response from the Prosecutor General’s Office to his appeal. According to him, the department has made a decision and will ask the Ministry of Justice to include Alla Pugacheva in the register of foreign agents. Vitaly Borodin did not publish any document to confirm his words.

On March 28, State Duma deputy from United Russia Sergei Solovyov confirmed that the Prosecutor General’s Office had begun the procedure for recognizing Alla Pugacheva as a foreign agent. In his opinion, despite the fact that Ms. Pugacheva’s work is loved by many Russians, the singer “stands on a par with her enemies.”

On September 18, 2022, Alla Pugacheva on social networks asked the Ministry of Justice to recognize her as a foreign agent, following her husband. Then Dmitry Peskov stated that he had not heard a single unacceptable statement from the singer – unlike Maxim Galkin (recognized as a foreign agent).
