The idea of creating a “triple gas union” between Russia, Kazakhstan and Uzbekistan will still be taking shape, said Dmitry Peskov, press secretary of the Russian President. The fact that this project is being discussed was previously reported by a representative of the President of Kazakhstan.

According to Mr. Peskov, energy supply routes in this region are “extremely relevant.” The Kremlin spokesman believes that such a gas union “will meet the interests of all three countries.”

“Of course, this idea and initiative will take shape in some way. I mean in terms of formulating clear contours. We are talking about the fact that this is a huge, vast territory in a very important region,” he said during a press call.

Vladimir Putin discussed the creation of the aforementioned alliance with the President of Kazakhstan, Kassym-Jomart Tokayev, at a meeting in the Kremlin on November 28. None of the parties has yet given any details of the project. In June, the Kazakh national company QazaqGaz and Gazprom signed an agreement on increasing the processing of gas from Kazakhstan in Russia.
