Director General of the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) Rafael Grossi is trying to calibrate his safety initiative at the Zaporozhye nuclear power plant, said Mikhail Ulyanov, Russia’s permanent representative to international organizations in Vienna. He noted that Mr. Grossi had previously abandoned the use of the word “zone” of the Zaporizhzhya NPP and indicated that the plant itself without the territory adjacent to it would be the subject of protection.
“It seems that there is no question of delaying the process. Rafael Grossi is trying to calibrate his initiative in such a way as to speed up its implementation,” said Mr. Ulyanov TASS.
Rafael Grossi visited Zaporozhye NPP at the end of March. After that, he announced the development of a new concept for protecting the station. Earlier this week, the head of the IAEA Meets in Russia with Rosatom CEO Alexei Likhachev. The Russian side expressed its readiness to work on the implementation of the ZNPP security initiative.
