Perm generics manufacturer may be banned from selling medicine used in COVID-19

The structure of the pharmaceutical company Bayer filed a lawsuit against the Perm manufacturer of generic drugs Medisorb, Vedomosti was found in the database of the Moscow Arbitration Court. The defendant received permission to release the drug with the international non-proprietary name (INN) rivaroxaban, which is protected by a patent of the German group until December 4, 2024. In this regard, the plaintiff asks the court to oblige the Ministry of Health to cancel the state registration of the drug rivaroxaban Medisorb with the same active ingredient, and the Russian company to stop its production, use and storage. A hearing in this case has been scheduled for July 4. Medisorb declined to comment. Inquiries to the Ministry of Health and the Russian representative office of Bayer remained unanswered.
Bayer markets rivaroxaban under the brand name xarelto. The drug itself is used to treat deep vein thrombosis and pulmonary embolism. In 2019, the Ministry of Health recommended it for the prevention, diagnosis and treatment of COVID-19. According to the State Register of Medicines (GRLS), Medisorb registered rivaroxaban Medisorb in July 2022. The drug certificate is valid until July 2027.
