Earlier today, February 8, American journalist Seymour Hersh published an article in which, citing a source “with direct knowledge of operational planning,” he stated that the explosions of gas pipelines were a secret US operation.

A report published on the Substack platform alleges that in June 2022, US Navy divers, operating under the cover of the NATO exercise BALTOPS22 and with the approval of the Norwegian authorities, planted C4 explosives under three Nord Stream pipes that could be remotely activated.

On September 26, 2022, on orders from the administration of US President Joe Biden, a Norwegian Navy Orion P8 reconnaissance aircraft dropped a sonar buoy, the signal from which spread underwater first to Nord Stream 2, then to Nord Stream 1. This signal activated the explosives, according to Mr. Hersh’s material.

The journalist said that the US goal was to eliminate Europe’s dependence on Russian gas. “While Europe remained dependent on pipelines with cheap natural gas, Washington feared that countries like Germany would not be willing to supply Ukraine with the money and weapons needed to defeat Russia,” Mr. Hersh wrote.

The White house denies involvement in the explosions. Denmark, Norway and Germany are currently investigating the incident. According to Danish experts, the explosion power on each pipeline was 500 kg of TNT equivalent. On November 1, the sites of explosions of gas pipelines were examined by the Russian “Gazprom”. Russian President Vladimir Putin named damage to the Nord Stream threads by an “act of international terrorism”.
