Russian President Vladimir Putin signed a decree conferring the title of Honored Artist of the Russian Federation on TV presenter and illusionist Hmayak Akopyan. The corresponding decree was published on the legal information portal.
According to published documents, a similar honorary title was also awarded to member of the Union of Cinematographers of Russia Olesya Dzeban-Sudzilovskaya and artistic director of the Ural dance ensemble of the Chelyabinsk Philharmonic Society Svetlana Lukina.
Hmayak Akopyan was born in 1956 in the family of a circus magician, People’s Artist of the USSR Harutyun Akopyan. The future honored artist first studied at a variety and circus school, and after an injury he moved to GITIS. In the 80s, he hosted the TV show “Morning Mail”, took part in the filming of other projects, and in the 90s he hosted the children’s program “Good Night, Kids!” Over the years of his career he has starred in two dozen films and TV series.
At the end of last year in an interview with MK Hmayak Hakobyan said that, unlike a number of fellow artists, he does not intend to leave Russia. He said that he considers the Russians who left to be “cowards.”
“I didn’t run away and stayed with my beloved audience,” noted Hakobyan, “with my president, in whom I believe and will continue to believe.”
