Passengers suggested that airlines award bonuses for flight delays

The All-Russian Association of Passengers (PPA) sent a letter to the Ministry of Transport with a proposal to recommend that all airlines award bonus miles to passengers in case of delays due to the fault of the carrier. About it reported Kommersant with reference to the association’s letter.

It is clarified that airlines will be able to set the amount of compensation payments independently. According to the chairman of the PLO, Ilya Zotov, the introduction of such a mechanism will motivate passengers to become regular customers of the airline. He also recalled that the current compensation amount is 25 rubles. for each hour of delay, from April 1, 2024, the amount of payments will be increased to 100 rubles, however, this amount “does not meet passengers’ requests for adequate compensation.”

Airlines are positive about this initiative. In particular, the Red Wings reported that the program is in development and could be launched “in the foreseeable future.” S7 recalled that S7 Priority program participants already receive bonus points for delays.

At the same time, one of the publication’s interlocutors noted that it is extremely difficult to prove the airline’s guilt in the flight delay. In this regard, he proposed extending the compensation mechanism to all types of delays. However, this could lead to an increase in air ticket prices, warned the head of the Association of Air Transport Agencies, Dmitry Gorin.

On August 13, in an interview with Vedomosti, the CEO “Aeroflot» Sergey Alexandrovsky toldthat by the end of the year the airline will introduce compensation for flight delays due to the fault of the carrier with bonus miles for participants of the program “Aeroflot bonus.” He clarified that the bonuses will be in addition to the financial compensation required by law. The compensation mechanism became operational on October 2.

Aleksandrovsky said that the loyalty program will also apply to Pobeda Airlines, which has never previously awarded bonuses. It will be possible to buy Pobeda tickets with bonus miles from 2024, he added.
