Pakistani Oil Minister Musadiq Malik announced the placement of the first order for Russian oil. Islamabad expects that if the first transaction “goes smoothly”, then purchases will amount to 100,000 barrels per day. It is planned that the first cargo will arrive at the port of Karachi in May.
“Our orders have already been placed, we have already placed them,” said Musadiq Malik Reuters.
The Minister confirmed that it is only about the purchase of crude oil, “without oil products.” At the first stages, Russian oil will be processed by the Pakistani Refinery Limited. After a trial period, other refineries will join.
Russia in January announced on “conceptual agreements” on the supply of Russian oil and oil products to Pakistan. Islamabad expects imports from Russia to meet up to 35% of Pakistan’s crude oil needs in the future.
