Ozon can employ more than 500 convicts

Ozon can recruit more than 500 people who have been convicted with lenient sentences to work in warehouses. About it informed TASS with reference to the press service of the company.

“Ozon launches the social project “Ozon without judgment”. The company will offer work in its fulfillment centers to more than 500 convicts with a mild sentence until the end of 2023. Each project participant will receive a paid job, comfortable working conditions and the opportunity to earn extra money for overtime hours,” the message says.

Only those serving sentences who were convicted for the first time and are now in correctional centers and settlement colonies will be able to take part in the project.

This measure will allow convicts to more easily cope with social adaptation and improve their employment prospects in the future, Ozon explained. They added that such employees will work only in warehouses and will collect orders and process returns, the project does not apply to pick-up points and courier services.

The company also stressed that the proportion of convicts in each warehouse will not exceed 10%. In total, logistics warehouses in the Moscow region, Kazan and Rostov-on-Don will take part in the project. Now such a project is already operating in St. Petersburg, it was launched in September 2022. Ozon explained that the project showed effectiveness and therefore it was decided to expand its geography.

In mid-June at AvtoVAZ confirmed the possibility of involving the labor of convicts in forced labor. According to the president of the company Maxim Sokolov, such employees will be paid a salary.

At the end of March, Kommersant informed about the proposal of the Federal Penitentiary Service for the state corporation Rostec to hire convicts. According to the newspaper, the director of the Federal Penitentiary Service, Arkady Gostev, in a letter to the head of Rostec, Sergey Chemezov, suggested involving convicts in the manufacture and supply of products for the needs of the state corporation for the development, production and export of industrial products. According to the publication, Rostec sent the document to its enterprises for consideration.
