Owners of Qiwi Bank electronic wallets, whose license has been revoked by the Bank of Russia, have the right to submit an application to the state corporation Deposit Insurance Agency (DIA), confirming the presence of funds in the wallet. Within 30 days, the DIA will notify the applicant about the results of consideration of the application. According to approved applications, money will be paid as part of the bank’s liquidation procedures, the DIA press service told Kommersant.

As stated in the state corporation, clients who had money both in their account and on deposit with Qiwi Bank will be paid insurance compensation. The maximum amount of compensation per depositor is 1.4 million rubles. taking into account accrued interest. Funds that exceed the limit, as well as those that are not subject to insurance (for example, those in an electronic wallet), can be obtained during the liquidation procedures of Qiwi Bank, the press service clarified.

The DIA also stated that the number of clients of the financial institution who had more than 1.4 million rubles in their accounts will be known after receiving the register of Qiwi Bank depositors – three to four days after the license is revoked.

The reason for the revocation of the license from February 21 was cited by the regulator as the participation of Qiwi Bank in settlements between individuals and shadow businesses: crypto exchangers, bookmakers, online casinos. Also, according to the Central Bank, the organization was looking for ways to circumvent the restrictions imposed by the regulator.

After the license was revoked, Qiwi Bank, in particular, began to block transactions through Qiwi wallets (depositing and withdrawing funds). Revocation of license also affected clients of Raiffeisenbank and Tochka Bank. In particular, the Raiffeisenbank application began experiencing problems when paying for communications and provider services. In addition, Metallinvestbank announced temporary restrictions on the operation of Qiwi services.

The DIA previously stated that payments to depositors would begin no later than March 6. Agent banks will be selected through a competition no later than February 27. You can submit an application for compensation to the DIA during the period of bank liquidation; it will be less than a year.
