The State Kremlin Palace stated that it did not cancel the performance of Honored Artist of Russia Kristina Orbakaite at the “Be Happy Always!” concert. March 7. Press secretary of the site Konstantin Yaroshevsky said TASSthat the artist did not perform “for some reason of her own.” The singer’s concert director, Alexander Kachan, declined to comment.

Mr. Yaroshevsky noted that organizing concerts is a “living process” and the initially announced lineup may change. “There are reshuffles, rotations, additions, cancellations. That is, this is an extremely living story that undergoes changes almost every day. Therefore, the organizers always make a separate note stating that there may be changes in the program. Often, the artists themselves may change their plans,” he explained.

The Kremlin Palace press secretary noted that he was not aware of the appeal from social activist Vitaly Borodin, who claimed that the performance was canceled because of his request to recognize the artist as a foreign agent. Mr. Yaroshevsky stated that the venue “did not receive any requests or instructions that we remove it from the concert.”

The Kremlin Palace had previously announced a performance by Kristina Orbakaite, but shortly before the event the number was removed from the program. Denis Maidanov and Taisiya Povaliy performed instead. “Moscow’s comsomolets” claimedthat the singer’s number was removed due to anti-Russian statements by her mother Alla Pugacheva.

Alla Pugacheva repeatedly publicly spoke out against the fighting in Ukraine and after February 2022 emigrated from Russia together with her husband Maxim Galkin, whom the Ministry of Justice of the Russian Federation admitted a foreign agent in September of the same year. Afterwards, several concerts of Kristina Orbakaite were cancelled, including in Ulan-Ude and the cities of Siberia. At the beginning of February, the organizers canceled singer’s concert in Vladivostok. The performances of Maxim Galkin (recognized as a foreign agent in the Russian Federation) were canceled in Kazakhstan And Thailand.
