Mobile operators have asked the government to allow them to raise their telecom rates annually by 5% above inflation. This is necessary for the modernization of networks that ensure the stable operation of networks. This was reported to Kommersant by sources in the industry.
Representatives of mobile operators asked about this at a session to discuss the development of the communications industry until 2035, which was held on June 20 by Russian Prime Minister Mikhail Mishustin. The initiative was put forward by the working group on fixed communications, Kommersant was told in the office of Deputy Prime Minister Dmitry Chernyshenko.
The Ministry of Digital Transformation reported that they got acquainted with the forecast of operators on the growth of communication tariffs by 5% per year against the level of inflation. At the same time, as reported in the department, the indexation of tariffs is possible only if several conditions are met. Operators must provide a differentiated approach that guarantees the availability of communication services for the entire population, the Ministry of Digital Development explained. Also, growth should be smooth and gradual. According to Kommersant’s interlocutor at the Ministry of Digital Development, the government may also require operators to sign binding investment agreements.
Formally, there are no restrictions on tariffs for communication services in Russia. However, the FAS recommendation is now in effect to limit the increase in prices for communication by the level of inflation.
