Pilot production of the Sukhoi Log gold deposit in the Angara region of the Irkutsk region will begin in 2024, TASS reported, citing Sergei Zhuravlev, vice president of the Polyus company. According to the agency, from January 1 the project will receive the status of a regional investment project.

“The project to create a mining and gold extraction complex based on the Sukhoi Log gold deposit has a significant impact on the socio-economic development of not only our region, but also the country as a whole. Understanding the full significance of the project, we provide comprehensive support for its implementation,” Mr. Zhuravlev quotes the words of the head of the region, Igor Kobzev.

The Sukhoi Log deposit in the Bodaibinsky district of the Irkutsk region is one of the largest undeveloped gold deposits in the world. As of 2020, its reserves amount to 40 million ounces of gold, resources – 67 million ounces.
