In the first quarter of 2023, online grocery sales increased by 24.5% year-on-year to RUB 198 billion, according to a study by the Infoline analytical agency. It says that compared to the fourth quarter of last year, the growth rate of this segment slowed down (at that time the market increased by 36.7%). This is due to savings on the part of the population, the authors of the study believe. A slightly more optimistic estimate from Data Insight: according to the estimates of this agency, in the first three months of 2023, the online grocery market grew by 42% in orders and 31% in money. And compared to the end of 2022, sales increased by 12% in orders and 6% in money terms, says Olga Pashkova, senior analyst at this company. She did not give absolute numbers.

Online sales are growing primarily due to the fact that the largest players in this market (primarily Sbermarket and Samokat) invest in delivery and also use promotions, Infoline said in a report.
