Online cinema Start admitted the leak of users of the platform. The company claims that the leaked database does not contain cleartext passwords and up-to-date banking data. Previously, profile Telegram channels reported about the leak.
According to the press service of the service, the database contains information for 2021. “The base is not of great interest to intruders; the most significant thing there is an email or phone from which the user could connect, ”the company said in a statement in its Telegram channel.
The company insists that the leaked database does not contain bank data of users and passwords from accounts in clear text.
The press service of Start added that they had already fixed the error due to which the leak occurred. The service recommended that users change their password to access the platform and noted that this should be done regularly.
Earlier it became known that the Start user database was leaked to the network. By information Telegram channel “Information Leaks”, the database contains data from almost 44 million accounts. There is information about the first and last names of users, hashed passwords, emails, IP addresses and other data.
In the spring, major data leaks occurred at Rostelecom, CDEK, Yandex.Food, Delivery Club and other large companies. Because of this, the Ministry of Digital started to work on a bill that will introduce administrative liability for data leakage. Amendments may be introduced to the Code of Administrative Offenses that will allow a company to fine 1-3% of its annual turnover for data leakage. Also, according to Kommersant’s information, the Ministry of Digital Development is discussing the possibility of creating a material compensation fund for victims of database leaks.
