One of the largest gas storage facilities in Europe stopped for three days due to an accident

In the underground gas storage facility (UGS) “Rehden” in Germany, on the evening of January 31, a flare caught fire, the operation of the UGS was suspended until February 3. About it informs UGS operator Astora.
“For safety reasons, the UGS facility has been temporarily decommissioned until 06:00 pm on Friday (February 3),” the company said in a statement.
Astora clarifies that there were no casualties in the incident. The accident did not affect the safety of supplies and did not have an impact on the environment, the report said. The company added that the cause of the fire is unknown, now employees of Astora and public services are investigating the circumstances of the incident.
Rehden is the largest gas storage facility in Germany and one of the largest in Europe. According to Gas Infrastructure Europe dated January 30, UGS facilities are 90.29% full (3.8 billion cubic meters of gas), German UGS facilities are 79.2% full.
Until the spring of 2022, Reden was part of Gazprom Germania. April 1stGazprom» lost control over UGS operator Astora by ceasing participation in its German subsidiary and its assets. Later it became known that the management of Gazprom Germania was transferred to the Federal Network Agency of Germany.
