“Now the artist operates with local dazzling colors” – Kommersant FM

Kommersant FM columnist Dmitry Butkevich talks about projects dedicated to the artist’s anniversary.

In December, the famous and beloved artist Lyusa Voronova turns 70, which you would never say looking at her bright, vital canvases and perky appearance with the eternal red cap on her head.

The anniversary season is marked by a series of exhibitions at different venues in different cities, organized by the Lucy Voronova Foundation, created by her son Georgy.

The first exhibition took place in October in Gostiny Dvor in the Kitai-Gorod gallery of the Moscow Exhibition Halls association. I was the curator of the “Flower Jazz” project: flowers and music, space objects and constellations, female nudes are the main patterns of Lucy’s creativity. In total we showed about 30 paintings.

Now the main, perhaps, pre-anniversary exhibition project “Red – Life, Blue – Sky, Black – Eternity” has opened in Vladikavkaz. Curator Alina Fedorovich built a perspective from 80 canvases, based on the artist’s color schemes.

The exhibition was organized by the foundation and the North Caucasus branch of the Pushkin Museum. Pushkin in partnership with the National Museum of the Republic of North Ossetia-Alania. This project involves more than 80 paintings from the so-called joyful period of Voronova’s work, which “started” in 2018.

Now the artist operates with local dazzling colors, especially highlighting red and orange. As Lucy herself said during the teleconference organized at the vernissage: “These colors are especially important to me. After all, orange is the same red, only with an admixture of yellow.” The presence of richly ornamented objects from the collection of the National Museum among Voronova’s paintings gave the exhibition a special charm.

By the way, on December 15 in Moscow at the DPI Museum there will be a presentation of a catalog of the artist’s works.

And one more thing: Lucy always accompanies her paintings with detailed titles and descriptions. Memorable: a swirling riot of bright colors and the caption “Night, barista, taxi, and in my dreams I’m always young.”
