Novak: tourist flow to the ski resorts of the North Caucasus grew by 60% in three years

Tourist flow to the ski resorts “Elbrus”, “Arkhyz” and “Veduchi” exceeds 1.3 million people per season, Deputy Prime Minister Alexander Novak said. According to him, in three years the flow of tourists to the ski resorts of the North Caucasus has grown by 60%.

Mr. Novak, who oversees the North Caucasian Federal District (NCFD), made these figures public during a meeting between Prime Minister Mikhail Mishustin and deputy prime ministers. Alexander Novak said that the government is engaged in the development of the regions of the North Caucasus, and called tourism one of the “locomotives” of the economic development model.

Mr. Mishustin believes that for the socio-economic development of the North Caucasus, the tourism sector should become a mainstay. “And a boost to related industries. Here is construction, and trade, and agriculture, and others,” the prime minister added (quoted by TASS).

At the end of January, the Krasnodar Mountain Peaks LLC requested consent of the Federal Antimonopoly Service for the purchase of the Arkhyz resort in Karachay-Cherkessia. The cost of the transaction can be estimated at about 17 billion rubles. In February, the deal received preliminary approval from the regulator, but he promised restrict the new resort owner from raising prices.
