Deputy Prime Minister Alexander Novak said that Russia is ready to discuss gas supplies to Europe in transit through Ukraine and along other routes, but so far does not see such a desire from the other side.

“If there is a desire from the other side, then we are ready to discuss. So far we don’t see such a desire,” Mr. Novak told reporters on the sidelines of Energy Day at the Russia exhibition and forum (quoted by the Prime agency).

In October 2023, the head of Naftogaz, Alexey Chernyshev statedthat Ukraine will not renew the agreement on the transit of Russian gas through its territory to Europe after its expiration at the end of 2024.

Slovak Prime Minister Robert Fico, after his visit to Ukraine on January 25, admitted that the country could extend the transit agreement. However, later the press service of the Ukrainian government denied this information, noting that Kyiv “can talk with a European country (EU member) about using its gas transportation network.”
