Norilsk Nickel and VK will develop IT solutions for the steel business

“The document, signed at the St. Petersburg Economic Forum, involves cooperation in the field of cloud computing and virtualization of IT infrastructure, the development of multifunctional platforms and portals, tools for managing big data and artificial intelligence technologies,” the message says.

The companies plan to develop Internet of Things technologies and industry-specific geoinformation services, VK specified.

The relevant document was signed by State Secretary, Vice President for Government Relations and Management of Norilsk Nickel Dmitry Pristanskov and Managing Director of VK Tech Pavel Gontarev.

In a conversation with journalists Pristanskov toldthat after the departure of developers of Western IT solutions “nornickelrebuilt its “digital landscape”. According to him, this agreement “was based on the same technological cooperation in terms of the development and application of domestic IT solutions for our metallurgical industry.” Pristanskov noted that at Norilsk Nickel all business processes, from office and management to planning of mining, metallurgical redistribution, supply and logistics, have been put on a digital footing.

At the end of May, Deputy Prime Minister Dmitry Chernyshenko at the conference “Digital Industry of Industrial Russia” (CIPR) declaredthat in Russia for 80% of solutions in the field of information technology developed their own counterparts.

In Russia, the development of industrial software is carried out taking into account the specifics of the national market, and with an eye to export, the vice-premier added. He said that 10 particularly significant projects have already been implemented, and nine more will be completed by the end of 2023. “We will implement the rest of the projects in the horizon of 3-5 years. The total cost of these projects is 212.8 billion rubles, and only 10% of this amount is financed by federal grants. The rest of the investments are the enterprises’ own funds,” Chernyshenko said.
