The developer of game consoles and video games Nintendo, who previously announced the curtailment of activities in Russia, explainedhow the company will operate in the country in the future. Nintendo announced that as of today, May 31, it will disable the ability to create new accounts with Russia as the user country. The company also disabled the official site nintendo.ru, intended for customers in Russia.
The company explained that the Nintendo eShop “will operate on a limited basis.” According to the company, users who previously purchased digital content from the Russian Nintendo eShop will be able to re-download it “for the foreseeable future”. After the withdrawal of international payment systems from the Russian Federation in March 2022, Nintendo eShop was, according to the company, closed for maintenance. Users of Nintendo Switch consoles from Russia could re-download archived games (that is, deleted ones with the icon in the menu), but access to completely deleted games was closed.
After the start of the military operation in Ukraine, Nintendo stopped deliveries to the Russian Federation. In April 2023 Nintendo informed, which maintains “a minimal presence in Russia to complete the winddown.” By that time, the Achivka company, whose CEO is the CEO of the Russian office of Nintendo Yasha Haddazhi, organized a parallel import of video games. According to Nintendo, the company is considering Achivka as a potential provider of warranty services for goods already sold in the Russian Federation.
