Nina Shatskaya intrigued the audience with a new program of romances

The other day, the public, gathered in the White Column Hall of Princess Shakhovskaya of the Helikon-Opera Theater, was presented with a new program by Nina Shatskaya “Don’t Awaken Memories”. This time, romances, as the main specialization of the singer, have become only part of a musical and poetic performance based on the poems of Evgeny Blazheevsky.

Over the years of her musical career, Nina Shatskaya has educated her audience in many ways. The singer’s projects have very little in common with show business in its carnival-commercial sense, but those who go to the performances of the Russian romance diva are used to this, so they are not expecting special effects, but more complex musical emotions.

The new program of the artist had a very behind-the-scenes character: the singer herself, guitarist Artur Marutyants, a high chair and music stand, no riot of light and bright dresses were on stage. Such minimalism very effectively emphasized dramatic poems and sensual romances, performed with emotions that were hard not to feel. It is noteworthy that the action itself was a surprise for many viewers.

In an interview with MK, Nina Shatskaya spoke about a dream that she finally managed to fulfill, sonnets from the seventies and songs by Alla Pugacheva.

– Judging by how the premiere of your new program went, lovers of romances are a much more lively audience than it sometimes seems. The lady who loudly demanded an old romance impressed everyone …

– The lady was basically right, because on the poster was exactly the program of old romances. But when we all said it, I met a wonderful guitarist Artur Marutyants and realized that I finally want to fulfill my dream.

“It was a risky move in many ways. When you not only perform romances, but also read poetry, and they take up an impressive part of the time and carry a large semantic load, it is much more difficult to keep the attention of the public …

– I really took on some responsibility already because for the first time I read poetry to a large audience, before I did not dare to such adventures. But I think everything worked out.

– It so happened that you offer your fans music in a variety of forms – from classical concerts to performances. How did the idea for Don’t Awaken Memories come about?

– I have always been fascinated by the romance “On the Road to Zagorsk”, which for a long time was the hallmark of Zhanna Bichevskaya. At first I was afraid to take on him, but then he entered my repertoire quite tightly. And about three years ago, one of my friends, a great lover of poetry, told me that “On the Road to Zagorsk” is in fact the main line of a wreath of sonnets. The wreath itself is built in such a way that each subsequent poem begins with the last line of the previous one. And the highway, that is, the fifteenth poem in the wreath, connects all the parts, repeating the first verses of each of the sonnets. I didn’t know about it, but I was very impressed. This cycle was written in the seventies by Evgeny Blazheevsky. By the way, his daughter Maria worked for MK for a long time. When I told about my desire to present the entire poetic cycle on stage, Maria wrote to me and thanked me for the fact that I remember her father, and this became another sign while working on the program.

– The sonnets themselves are not at all funny, rather dramatic, and here, probably, you need to rely on a prepared audience …

— I love dramatic stories, and those who visit me are ready for this. Of course, sometimes there are also casual viewers who then say: “But it would be more fun!” But those who have become my audience already understand that what awaits them is rather spiritual work than entertainment. Besides, the times are not very suitable for fun now. Rather, for reflection and inner work.

– The program sounds “Do not renounce loving” from the repertoire of Alla Pugacheva. I can assume that making your own version of a popular hit is not so easy, because this song has a certain trail…

– There are not many songs of Alla Borisovna in my repertoire, and all of them came from the program “Romance of Romance”. Despite the name, recently its authors have been making projects dedicated to famous Soviet poets and composers. And from time to time they ask me to sing a song by Raymond Pauls or Mark Minkov, something to the verses of Voznesensky or Yevtushenko. I do not refuse, but I probably would not have taken it myself. The responsibility to the first performer is very great. But if given the opportunity, why not take the risk?! Although this does not happen on purpose, I just go on a hunch, as my emotional state leads me. And I sing. I take upon myself the responsibility to touch these very profound works.

At the end of the performance, the singer presented several numbers that served as a happy ending in a rather dramatic program. “You finally waited,” Nina turned to the persistent lady, who demanded an old romance. “I give you this jewel in my repertoire.” After that, “Emerald” was performed. At the end, “Autumn Dew” sounded, drowning in applause. “Spring is in our souls, we just need to feel it,” the singer noted during the performance, and on this cold Moscow evening, her audience clearly felt warm.
