The singer conquered “Gorki Leninskie”

Honored Artist of the Russian Federation Nina Shatskaya performed at the Gorki Leninskiye Museum-Reserve. The audience listened to the concert, named after one of the songs of the program – “Love is a magical country” (to the verses of Marina Tsvetaeva, from the film “Cruel Romance”), sitting in soft bean bags on the lawn of the French Park, located in front of the main house of the estate. The listeners were delighted with the singer’s velvety voice and the cozy atmosphere of the open-air concert, which cannot be called a passing one. Right now the estate is going through a reboot, because this place is associated not only with the name of Vladimir Lenin.

The Gorki Leninskiye Museum-Reserve is one of the most visited estates near Moscow: 225,000 people visited it last year, which has become a record for this place since 1970. The folk trail is not overgrown primarily because of the interest in the figure of its most famous inhabitant – Vladimir Lenin, who lived here for the last days and died here on January 21, 1924. However, the history of the estate is connected not only with the leader of the proletariat.

For several centuries, Gorki was the estate of the noble family of the Savior, who received such a surname thanks to one of their ancestors – the Catholic priest Salvador, who arrived in Moscow in the retinue of Sophia’s brother Paleolog and converted to the Orthodox faith (Ivan III himself was present at baptism). In the 19th century, the estate belonged to the Russian writer and poet, Lieutenant General of the Napoleonic Wars, Alexander Pisarev. And at the beginning of the twentieth century, Zinaida Morozova bought it. After the death of her second husband, the famous philanthropist Savva Morozov, she remarried – now to the Moscow mayor Anatoly Reinbot, sold her mansion on Spiridonovka and acquired Gorki. The estate was rebuilt to the taste of the hostess Fyodor Shekhtel. The architect was kind to the historical territory and even made a curved road along which guests came to the estate in order to leave the Vyatichi barrows untouched. In Gorki, Zinaida Morozova planted roses, arranged social evenings and received guests. Immediately after the revolution, the estate received a safe-conduct and was used as a sanatorium.

Under Lenin, who first came here after being wounded in 1918, and since 1923 he lived permanently, almost nothing has changed. Unless they made new railings in the main house to make it easier for the patient to climb to the second floor. From Morozova and Reinboat, historical interiors, a library, and furniture have been preserved.

In autumn, the museum-reserve got a new director – Alisa Biryukova, who previously headed the Department of Culture of the Vladimir Region. She hopes to reformat the territory in such a way that, while preserving the memory of Vladimir Lenin, she will also tell about other owners and inhabitants of the estate. Right now, an exhibition dedicated to Zinaida Morozova has opened in the southern building of the museum, where the dining room of the sanatorium was located after the revolution. Along with it, the concert of the famous performer of romances Nina Shatskaya became one of the first signs of the renewed museum.

Nina appeared before the public on the porch of the main house in an elegant, sparkling floor-length dress. Spectators settled in the shade – on soft bean bags. Accompanied by pianist Vitaly Kovalenko. After the concert, the audience shared their impressions. “Amazing evening! Great weather, soulful atmosphere and, of course, romances performed by the magnificent Nina Shatskaya! Many thanks to the organizers and staff of the estate!” — said one of the listeners. “Homestead is the perfect place for this genre!” added another.

It’s hard to disagree with him. The “golden age” of Russian romance fell just at the beginning of the 20th century, when the estate acquired the form in which it has survived to this day. The exhibition “Palms and Roses by Zinaida Morozova” is dedicated to this period. And Nina Shatskaya is one of the best singers in this half-forgotten genre today. “Russian romance, from which many directions of musical art spring, is an inexhaustible treasury that Nina develops very skillfully, very subtly,” says, for example, the famous conductor Sergei Skripka.
