According to the agency Bloombergthe authorities of New York decided to buy a supercomputer in order to study and use the possibilities of artificial intelligence (AI) in regulation.

“When we talk about buying supercomputers for learning and machine learning, it doesn’t necessarily refer exclusively to the private sector,” said Adrien Harris, head of the New York City Department of Financial Supervision (DFS), whose department planned the purchase of the machine.

According to her, the authorities intend to hire specialists who will help in the study and practical application of AI. “We want DFS and other regulators to be the regulators of the future. This means that we intend to use the latest technological advances in the civil service for the benefit of society. We want the data we have to be processed and used to predict and respond to certain market events,” said Ms. Harris.
