Myanmar may begin accepting Mir cards from October – Kommersant

Myanmar expects to begin accepting cards from the Russian Mir payment system in October, said Myanmar Minister of Investment and Foreign Economic Relations Kan Zaw. According to him, “there is progress on this issue.”
“We hope that Mir cards will be accepted in Myanmar starting in October. There is an agreement between the Central Bank and six commercial banks,” the minister said “RIA News” on the sidelines of EEF 2023.
Mir cards are also accepted in Abkhazia, Armenia, Belarus, Vietnam, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan and South Ossetia. Indonesia, Myanmar, Egypt, Thailand, India, Mauritius, Nigeria and Ethiopia have expressed interest in using the cards.
In May, Russia and Iran reached bilateral agreements required for the use of Mir cards. In June these cards started accepted at the terminals of trade and service enterprises in Venezuela.
