Dolphin and “Puppies” set the mood of the season
The beginning of spring has become a time very rich in releases that are hard to ignore. The albums of Lana Del Rey and Depeche Mode became a great joy for local cosmopolitans, at the same time new songs in Russian also pleased. According to the results of March, the fresh albums of Delfin and the group “Puppies” can be safely called music quite worthy in order to devote time to it.
Dolphin / Goodbye Weapon
On his twelfth album, the musician makes love, not war. From the comments of Dolphin himself, it follows that the battle is lost, and now if you need to fight for something, it is for the people who are dear to you. Such escapism can be called logical. On his albums 442 (2018) and The Edge (2019), the musician took an active civic position, and even through the fog of his very imaginative lyrics, warnings and sometimes calls to see the impending darkness clearly appeared. Dolphin is far from the only one who can now state that the public does not listen to the musical heralds very carefully. And if it turned out the way it did, then the musician has to look for new melodies and meanings. On Farewell to Arms, Dolphin does it with well-mastered methods. The fusion of guitars and electronics, with a skillful approach, can take a variety of forms, and in this case, the sound of the album gracefully floats between noise and pop music (in Dolphin’s mind, of course) with entry into the musician’s favorite synth archive of the eighties. This album is made by skillful hands, and such skill in some situations looks a bit cynical. Dolphin and his team know the right buttons, press them without embarrassment, and sometimes they get more tracks than passionate songs. But this does not negate the fact that “You”, “Beautiful”, “Forgiveness” and some other numbers leave no doubt about the enviable author’s tone of the artist.
Puppies / Complex and Syndrome
Felix Bondarev and Maxim Tesli are very busy people. The first has a rather successful group RSAC, the second is involved in several musical projects, and also acts as a poet. However, right now “Puppies”, where Felix is responsible for the music, and Maxim for the texts and their performance, is the most successful undertaking by Bondarev and Tesli. “Complex and Syndrome” is the fifth original album of “Puppies”, and it must be admitted that in the eight years during which the musicians have been composing hurricane teen rock, their music is still hurricane and very young. Crown genre themes, namely sex, hatred, apathy and a hangover, are again played very famously. Perhaps the men in their thirties responsible for all this can be reproached with masterful stylization, but not at the moment when these songs are playing on your stereo. At this very moment, I want to test the capabilities of the speakers and my own eardrums. Felix Bondarev proves once again that a dirty guitar sound can be irresistible even in our sampled times, Maxim Tesli writes poetry, where there seem to be few words, but everything that is needed is formulated. The action movies are accompanied by a touching slow motion “Swimming Naked”, written as if specially for graduation parties. The punks obviously know the buyback.
