The organizers of the MTV Europe Music Awards (MTV EMA), which was supposed to take place on November 5 in Paris, have canceled the event, reports Reuters. The reason for the cancellation was the military conflict between Israel and Hamas.

“Given the volatility of world events, we have decided not to hold the 2023 MTV EMAs out of a sense of responsibility to the thousands of employees, crew members, artists, fans and partners who travel from all corners of the world to create the show,” a Paramount spokesperson was quoted by Reuters as saying. Global, which is responsible for hosting the music awards ceremony.

“The MTV EMAs are an annual celebration of world music. But as we watch the terrible events unfold in Israel and Gaza, it feels like the wrong moment for global celebration. Considering that thousands of lives have already been taken, this is a moment for mourning,” he said.

The award nominees included Taylor Swift, Olivia Rodrigo, SZA, Bad Bunny and Foo Fighters.

The 2023 awards ceremony will not be rescheduled. The next MTV EMA ceremony will be held in November 2024.
