Most banks in Armenia will stop accepting Mir cards from March 30 – Kommersant

A representative of VTB Armenia Bank (a subsidiary of the Russian VTB) said RBCthat from March 30, 2024, most Armenian banks will stop accepting cards of the Russian Mir payment system. This information was confirmed to the publication by a source in the Russian payment market.

“Starting March 30, users will no longer be able to make cashless payments at POS terminals and withdraw cash from ATMs of other banks in the republic. At work VTB cards (Armenia.— “Kommersant”) this will not have any effect,” a representative of VTB’s Armenian subsidiary told RBC. He stated that VTB Armenia continues to service Mir cards in full.

On February 23, the United States imposed sanctions against the National Payment Card System (NSCP) – the Mir operator. In company statedthat the sanctions will not affect the work of payment services within the country, and on the side of the payment system there are no restrictions on working with foreign partners. Foreign banks make decisions on accepting Mir cards on their own, NSPK added.

February 27, Kazakh bank Freedom Finance banned money transfers from Mir cards. In March, the Kazakh Bereke Bank, which used to be a subsidiary of Sberbank in Kazakhstan, announced the cessation of work with Mir cards.
