Moscow will not hear “Leningrad” – Kommersant FM

The concert of the Leningrad group at Luzhniki was canceled without explanation. Information about this appeared on the website of the ticket sales aggregator Kassir.ru a few days before it took place. The event was supposed to take place on September 16, but most buyers only started receiving cancellation letters the day before. As Kommersant FM found out, some fans were already on their way to the capital at that moment. Sergey Shnurov and other group members did not comment on the situation. What is known about this? And why could the stadium concert be canceled at the last minute? Daria Fomenko will tell you.
Tickets for the Leningrad concert at Luzhniki went off sale at the end of August, but there were no reports of its cancellation then.
However, loyal fans felt something was wrong, because last year tickets could be bought the day before the show, Muscovite Vladislav told Kommersant FM:
“At first I didn’t attach any importance to it. Then some imaginary sites began to appear where they wrote that a transfer was possible. I called the Kassir.ru service, and they confirmed that ticket sales have been suspended by the organizers, perhaps the date of the concert will change, and I need to wait for information.
It turns out that, starting from August 25, everyone was simply silent and referred to the organizers.”
The Kassir.ru service does not mention the reason for the cancellation of the concert. The aggregator has started issuing refunds, but it is not fast. Applications are collected right up to November 30, and it is not at all clear when the money will arrive in the account.
In addition to the cost of the ticket, fans had other expenses. For example, a resident of St. Petersburg, Alexander, spent money on travel to the capital and back:
“My friend is very savvy in this and will carry them through the courts. Two tickets to the concert cost us 14.2 thousand rubles, plus 2.5 thousand rubles. per person – for transfer to Moscow by train and 2 thousand rubles. – on the plane back.
We sent an application, but our flight tickets are non-refundable. We will, of course, go to the capital and take a walk, but without the Leningrad concert.”
Alexander was lucky because he received a notification from the organizer. Some fans, as Kommersant FM was convinced, did not receive the letters, and they learned about the situation from social networks.
The good news is that they can qualify for full compensation of costs, notes Vasily Khokhlov, senior lawyer at Kosenkov & Suvorov:
“This may include service fees that the buyer incurred, in particular, when paying for transport tickets, which he cannot return under the terms of the contract. It is important to have evidence here – a document confirming payment, there must be direct itinerary receipts.
You must file a complaint with the organizer. There are quite a lot of such cases, and most of the claims are satisfied in favor of consumers.”
Nothing is officially known about why the show will not take place. Only the Kassir.ru service spoke publicly, and then using the streamlined formulation “for reasons beyond the control of the organizer.”
Industry professionals are at a loss. Music producer Ilya Ostrovsky put forward several versions:
“Event cancellations at the very last moment can happen as a result of some kind of internal conflict that occurs in a musical group. There may be some force majeure circumstances, such as the artist’s illness, but usually this is announced publicly.
It is hardly possible to say that some technical problems did not allow the concert to be held, because any equipment can be replaced. Theoretically, this could, of course, be some kind of financial conflict that arose between the event organizer and the artist.”
However, this is not the first such incident. In the summer of 2023, the concert of the Leningrad group was canceled in Minsk. Nothing was reported about the reasons either, but at least the fans were warned two weeks in advance.
Even earlier, Sergei Shnurov complained that he could not organize a concert in his native St. Petersburg and explained this by a conflict with governor Alexander Beglov. True, a year has passed since then.
