Moscow State University (MSU) named after. M.V. Lomonosov intends to transfer the accounts and data of university employees and students from Microsoft online services to “My Office” and “Yandex 360”. Denis Yanyshev, director of the Center for the Development of Electronic Educational Resources at Moscow State University, told TASS about this. On March 15, Microsoft sent Russian companies a warning to block access to several cloud products.

“We suspected. Such steps have been established for a long time, so systematic work is underway, firstly, to transfer to Yandex 360, this is for the corporate environment. Instead of Microsoft Office, we signed an agreement with “My Office”, a domestic product,” said Mr. Yanyshev.

According to him, MSU management also plans to use Astra Linux and Rosa Linux services. Denis Yanyshev noted that the university is already using Microsoft Teams and Skype services for video conferencing instead of Zoom. “So we were internally prepared for what might happen. Well, then there are plans for a systematic transition,” said Mr. Yanyshev. He also noted that some employees have already transferred their accounts to domestic services.

On March 15, Softline reported that Microsoft, Amazon and Google would suspend access to cloud products for organizations in Russia from March 20. This decision was made in connection with sanctions that limit the supply of software and other products to Russia. From March 20, Russian companies will not be able to use these products or access the data they contain. March 18, Softline Vice President Andrey Blagorazumov reported “Kommersant” that the company “through its own channels” received information from Microsoft representatives about a possible postponement of the blocking date to the end of the month.
