According to a study by the All-Russian Patients’ Union (VSP), in 2023, 42.5% of patients with cardiovascular diseases (CVD) faced a lack of subsidized drugs in the pharmacy. 35.8% of beneficiaries did not receive the prescribed medications for reasons beyond their control. Due to difficulties in obtaining a prescription, 53% had to buy drugs that should be provided to them free of charge.
As the study showed, this year patients with CVD are experiencing fewer problems with access to medical care and therapy than in 2022, but the indicators have not yet returned to 2021 levels. According to the UPU, 35.8% of beneficiaries did not receive the free medications they were entitled to for the treatment of CVD. Roszdravnadzor assured Kommersant that there have been no complaints from “cardiovascular” patients about refusal to receive free medications recently.
VSP and the Center for Social Mechanics studied the availability of CVD therapy in Russia in 2023. From June 19 to July 10, they surveyed 1,014 patients from 78 regions, including 226 people who had suffered a myocardial infarction in the last two years.
