Chairman of the Board of Directors of Severstal Alexey Mordashov called the idea of deductions from companies for the use of foreign software very controversial. The idea has been discussed by the authorities since 2022, June 1, Prime Minister Mikhail Mishustin confirmed plans to use deductions for foreign software for grants and loans. Mr. Mordashov substantiated his position by the fact that businesses are already forced to spend a lot of money on developing their own software (SW).
“This idea, in my opinion, is very controversial … I do not share this idea,” said in an interview. “RIA News” head of Severstal. He recalled that the business has lost the full support of foreign providers, for which he paid money, and now invests in domestic software. “We are directing and will continue to direct serious resources to the development of our own software. Under these conditions, it would be wrong to increase the financial burden on us,” Alexey Mordashov explained.
At the same time, he noted that he understands the logic of the government: foreign solutions continue to be used by businesses offline, that is, for free, which is why the idea of collecting is being discussed. The government intends to direct the deductions received from the business to support Russian developers, declared yesterday mishustin.
Mr. Mordashov, in turn, noted that the grants received from the state for the development of domestic software are much less than the costs of business. “If we talk about the costs of our entire industry, then now 90% of these investments are covered by the companies themselves,” he said.
