Moldovagaz completes audit of debt to Gazprom – Kommersant

Moldovan Energy Minister Victor Parlikov said that Moldovagaz had completed an audit of the debt to Gazprom, but its results would be made public after a thorough analysis.
“The results of the audit within the framework of the agreement with Gazprom are already available, but they will be publicly presented when we carefully analyze them. It is about the structure of these debts. Based on the findings of this audit, we will make a decision on how to further resolve the situation with Gazprom. There is also money that was unreasonably used by the company (Moldovagaz). The results of the audit are, shall we say, interesting,” Mr. Parlikov said in an interview. According to Gazprom, Moldova’s gas debt is $709 million ($433 million is the debt itself, and the rest is penalties for late payments). According to the data of the Accounts Chamber of Moldova at the end of 2021, we are talking about $590.8 million. The debt audit was recorded in the gas supply agreement in 2022.
In November 2022, Gazprom threatened reduce fuel supplies to Moldova due to the fact that part of the gas “settled” in Ukraine, but in the end decided not to do this. From December Moldova stopped gas supplies from Russia and declared independence from Russian gas.
