Moldova resumed consumption of Russian gas in March, Vadim Cheban, head of the Moldovagaz gas distribution company, said. He explained this by a decrease in consumption in Transnistria due to warming.
Moldovagaz will buy about 0.7-0.8 million cubic meters of gas from Gazprom and about 1.3-1.5 million cubic meters from Energocom daily for its consumers. Mr. Cheban wrote in Telegramthat the company takes into account that the price of supplies from Gazprom and Energocom is almost identical.
In December 2022, Moldova completely abandoned the consumption of Russian gas. The entire volume of 5.7 million cubic meters per day was sent to Pridnestrovie, which distributed it to consumers and used it to generate electricity at the Moldavskaya GRES. The station supplied electricity to Moldova at a price cheaper than in Romania. The generating capacities of Moldova provide 20% of the country’s needs. Moldova consumed gas, which was purchased by the state enterprise Energocom on the stock exchange, as well as from storage facilities in Romania and Ukraine.
