Moldova paid Gazprom an advance for August

“Moldovagaz” transferred to “Gazprom” an advance payment for the fuel received in August, informed the head of the Moldovan company Vadim Cheban in his Telegram channel.

“Today JSC “Moldovagaz” transferred PJSC”Gazprom“in full payment for natural gas delivered in the first half of August 2022. This is $16.74 million, that is, 50% of the advance payment for consumption in the current month,” he said.

The advance payment, according to Cheban, became possible thanks to the decision of the Commission for Emergency Situations, according to which the state company Energocom will purchase 10 million cubic meters from Moldovagaz. m of gas.

In the government of Moldova earlier today clarifiedthat the purchased gas will be stored in Romania. The gas price for the first tranche will be $1,458.92 per 1,000 cubic meters. m, for the second – $ 1881, it is planned to be purchased in September.

On August 22, the head of Moldovagaz, Vadim Cheban, announced that the company had paid for gas in July with Gazprom, and also requested a delay for August. On the same day “Gazprom” as an exception allowed “Moldovagaz” to make an advance payment on supplies for August on September 1.

On August 4, the Moldovan National Energy Regulatory Agency (ANRE) raised gas prices from 18.62 lei to 23 lei per cubic meter. The tariff began to operate from August 1. Moldovagaz, in turn, asked to raise the price to almost 30 lei per cubic meter to cover tariff deviations. The cost of gas purchases for Moldova in August amounted to $1,458 per 1,000 cubic meters. m. It is expected that by September the price will rise to $1692 per 1000 cubic meters. m. ANRE, when calculating, proceeded from the average purchase price in 2022, which is $ 899 per 1000 cubic meters. m.

In October last year, Moldovagaz and Gazprom extended the gas supply contract for five years. According to the formula proposed by Chisinau, the price of gas is partly linked to the oil product basket and partly to spot gas prices in Europe. Thus, in November, the purchase price of Russian gas for Moldova was $450 per 1,000 cubic meters. m. Under the contract that expired in September, Moldova paid for gas an average of $148 per 1,000 cubic meters. m.
