The first results of the audit of Moldovagaz’s debt to Gazprom will appear at the end of January, said Deputy Prime Minister, Minister of Infrastructure Andrei Spinu. He clarified that during the audits they should find out the amount of debt, how it was accumulated and who is to blame.
According to Mr. Spinu, Moldova “does not mind paying the debt, if any,” but does not want to pay debts other than its own. “By the end of January, we should have the first result of the audit process… If Gazprom does not recognize an independent audit, then we will not be able to talk about settling the debt, because no one understands how it appeared,” the minister said on the air of the Vocea TV channel Basarabiei (quote from RIA Novosti).
In November Gazprom threatened reduce fuel supplies to Moldova due to the fact that part of the gas “settled” in Ukraine, but in the end decided don’t do it. From December Moldova stopped gas supplies from Russia. In the same month the republic stated about achieving independence from Russian gas. “Moldovagaz” paid deliveries of Gazprom for November and December, although the President of the Republic Maia Sandu accused Russian company in default.
