Candy brand M&M’s (owned by Mars) will no longer use spokescandies in advertising (“talking candies” – “b”). This was reported by the press service of M&M’s.
“Over the past year, we’ve made some changes to our favorite spokescandies. We weren’t sure if anyone would even notice. And we definitely didn’t think it would blow up the internet. But now we understand – even sweetie shoes can be divisive. This is the last thing M&M’s wanted as we all strive to bring people together,” M&M’s said in a statement posted on Twitter.
The brand will be represented by American actress and comedian Maya Rudolph. As writes The Wall Street JournalMs. Rudolph will also star in an M&M’s commercial due out in February for the Super Bowl.
M&M’s did a character redesign last year. Among other things, the company replaced Zelena’s shoes with sneakers, which caused a mixed reaction on social networks. A petition for the return of the character’s shoes called “Keep the Green sexy” on the Change.org portal gained about 20 thousand signatures.
About the redesign – in the material “Kommersant FM” “M&M’s supported the trends”.
