Ministry of Energy predicts stabilization of coal exports in 2023

Coal exports from Russia in 2023 will remain at last year’s level, i.e., will amount to about 220 million tons. This was announced on June 6 by Deputy Minister of Energy of the Russian Federation Sergey Mochalnikov. Coal production in Russia this year will also remain at the level of 2022. “We will extract about the same amount, exports will be the same. We focus on the numbers 440 [млн т] and 220 [млн т добычи и экспорта соответственно]”, – said Mochalnikov on the sidelines of the international exhibition “Russian Coal and Mining” in Novokuznetsk (quote from Interfax).
The official clarified that coal production in Russia in January-May 2023 increased by about 2% compared to the same period last year to 162 million tons, and exports increased by 1.9% to 83 million tons. According to him, amounted to 79 million tons.
