Delegations from a number of countries “unfriendly” to Russia will visit Eastern Economic Forum (WEF) this year, in particular Japan and South Korea, told Alexei Chekunkov, head of the Ministry for the Development of the Far East, in an interview with RIA Novosti.
“There will be guests… I am generally convinced and I know for sure that we have friends in unfriendly countries, and there are many of them. At the working level, the Japanese, the Koreans, many other people are expressing support – not just pragmatism and a constructive approach, but support, ”he said.
Chekunkov explained that they themselves have been living for a long time in conditions of limited sovereignty, and a number of decisions are made “not by them, not in their countries and not in the interests of their peoples.” For example, Japanese business continues to operate in Russia and will continue to operate in the long term, despite the position of Tokyo, which, as claims official, “is expressed and formulated by dependent people.”
VII Eastern Economic Forum will be held on September 5–8, 2022 on the campus of the Far Eastern Federal University in Vladivostok, the forum organizer is the Roscongress Foundation. At the beginning of August, participation in it was confirmed by representatives of 40 countries, informed Executive Secretary of the WEF Organizing Committee Anton Kobyakov. In 2021, the event brought together more than 4,000 participants from 58 countries, on the sidelines of the forum was signed 380 agreements worth about 3 trillion rubles.
The government approved the list of foreign states “committing unfriendly actions” against the Russian Federation, its citizens or legal entities in May 2021. The list includes only the United States and the Czech Republic. In March and then in July of this year, the Russian government expanded the list also includes the UK, the member states of the European Union, Canada, Australia, Norway, the Republic of Korea, Singapore, Ukraine, Switzerland, Japan, and others. Now it includes 49 countries that have previously introduced or acceded to sanctions against Russia after the start of the special military operation on 24 February.
