Ukraine will strive to ensure the resumption of the transit of food and grain through Poland, said Minister of Agrarian Policy and Food of Ukraine Mykola Solsky. This topic will be discussed at the talks in Warsaw today, April 17.
“The first step, in our opinion, should be the opening of transit, because this is quite important and this is what needs to be done unconditionally, and then we will talk about other things,” Mr. Solsky said (quoted by Reuters).
According to him, supplies across the Polish border account for about 10% of all food products exported by Ukraine. Deliveries to Hungary accounted for about 6% of Ukraine’s exports. The minister clarified that the transit of Ukrainian food products through Hungary and Slovakia was not affected.
Farm organizations in Poland, Hungary, as well as Romania, Slovakia and Bulgaria were unhappy import of Ukrainian agricultural products into the country, since it is intended for export, but eventually settles with them. April 15 Hungary and Poland banned its import. European Commission criticized this is the solution. Bulgaria also considers introduction of a ban on the supply of Ukrainian grain.
