Mikhalkov’s documentary about his film that failed 30 years ago will be shown at the Moscow International Film Festival

The documentary film by the president of the Moscow International Film Festival (MIFF) Nikita Mikhalkov “The History of the Failed Film” was included in the out-of-competition program of the MIFF “Special Screenings”. In the tape, Mr. Mikhalkov analyzes the reasons for the failure with his film “Remembering Chekhov”. The director and president of the Moscow International Film Festival spoke about this at a press briefing of the film festival, his words are quoted by TASS.
“I didn’t get a film with amazing actors who played amazingly. Each scene is a diamond, put together – there is no cinema, ”commented Nikita Mikhalkov. According to the director, he understood the reasons for the creative failure a few years later, explaining that “the cinema punished him for his frivolity.” The documentary was filmed with the participation of director, screenwriter and producer Andrei Zaitsev.
Remembering Chekhov is a 1993 unfinished film based on the biography of Anton Chekhov and written by Vladimir Lakshin.
MIFF will be held from August 26 to September 2 in Moscow. 13 films entered the main competition. The first Moscow Film Festival was held in 1935.
