The historical drama by Anton Megerdichev, a film adaptation of the novel of the same name by Alexei Ivanov, The Heart of Parma, will open the Moscow International Film Festival (MIFF). This was announced at a press conference in TASS by the chairman of the selection committee of the MIFF Ivan Kudryavtsev.
This year there will be a new competition program at the film festival. “We are launching the national competition within the framework of the MIFF. The competition program was called “Russian Premieres” by analogy with Diaghilev’s “Russian Seasons”. This is a full-fledged competition, a full-fledged competitive program with its own jury and a prize in the form of Silver George, which will be awarded on the main evening on the main stage,” Mr. Kudryavtsev announced. The jury of the “Russian Premieres” will be headed by director Sergei Ursulyak.
In total, nine films from Russia, Serbia, China, Turkey, Sri Lanka, Romania and Peru entered the main competition. As part of the MIFF, 230 films from 65 countries of the world will be shown.
Mr. Kudryavtsev said that the festival will be balanced in terms of the representation of countries, despite the very difficult political and cultural context. “I would say that this year we managed to keep just the perfect balance,” he added.
Actor Yevgeny Mironov will chair the jury at the Moscow International Film Festival. The festival will open on August 26 and will continue until September 2. This year it was postponed – initially the MIFF was supposed to be held in mid-April.
